I’m open to Jewel toned colors. I love paintings of african things, abstract and cool landscapes. I’d like to get a solid idea for this and then build the rest of the room around it.
Sick of the blank walls!

Why not start with a piece of art or a poster in colors you want in your room?

We had two large walls in our new house and needed inexpensive wall decorations. we collected pallets from the continued construction in our neighborhood and created a pallet wall. We used the thin sections for most of the wall, cut into various lengths. Stained them lightly with red or blue or teal or gray stain. We used a few thicker pieces to create more texture. This took us half a day. For the other wall we purchased two old doors, sanded off the peeling paint, then sealed with a lead paint sealer for safety. We hung them side by side on the wall. We then hung some old things we already had. My husbands childhood hobby horse (it was flat), a family farm painting, some old hardware we purchased at various junk shops over the years. We get wow compliments when people come by and see it for the first time.

Have you thought about putting doors on to conceal the TV and equipment? I find it hard to decorate around our large TV so I put it in a large armoire and then things fell into place.

OH, Yes! Shutters from the time period of the fire place would even make the wall around the Television hole look more finished! Make it look like a closed window. I don't like machinery in you Living Room. Mine looks like furniture bookcases.

African Art is extremely vibrant in colors and feelings. Start by painting your fireplace a dark blue grey. The walls and baseboards then need to be painted a light orange with red being the base, not yellow. This will complement the rest of the open areas that are painted the lovely beige you already have. You can then use art that has great spectrums of color -- turquoise couch, red chairs, etc. The last piece of art work below and the rug combines all the colors suggested. Good luck.

I didn't mean to repeat myself about the baseboards, but my first reply didn't pop up. I was thinking about the tv and just had to update.

Love the art work, sofa, floor flower like lamp and rug! But not the swinging lamp who wants to reach on the floor and turn on a lamp all the time? .The glass table. .what can I say

The idea of shutters is a cool but I don't see it going with your African theme. Maybe some ironwork with something behind it to block the site of the TV. To go with your theme .Or a slideable picture over the tv. You know the ones cut in half that slide. Maybe in a really nice wood (carved)

Alright time to go, I'm giving myself ideas. Have a great nite and Good Luck. .ciao

Sorry, there's a remote for the lamp. Should have included this detail.

I went with an African decor theme, too. If you want inexpensive, trendy, check out Wish.com using the search line. Wayfair has great stuff as we’ll. The wood wall feature gives off a country vibe. Large, animal or safari landscapes make an Afrocentric palette really pop. Modern elements mix in well, too.
