Does it need a new battery?
Yes you can! This will help.

Absolutely! 1. If you have a voltmeter check to see if you have voltage on the open two wires behind the pushbutton. 2. Does the pushbutton switch operate like it should? 3 If these are not the problem the next step would be to go inside, pull the chime box cover off the wall to expose the internal mechanics have someone push the doorbell button to check the the transformer operates the solenoid(s). Don't get too rough with the cover, it probably just slips or clips onto the base. 4 If none of these seem to be the problem you may have an open wire from the inside mechanism to the doorbell.
Yes. Remove the device on the outside of your house. To deter if the indoor bell actually works, touch the two wires together. If the bell rings, install a new button outside. If the bell doesn't ring, replace the indoor unit.
I just replaced mine with one of those plastic door bells outside and a plug-in chime, works great. I just capped off the wires on my old doorbell. 5 min. install..... https://www.amazon.com/Heath-Zenith-SL-7366-02-Wireless-Plastic/dp/B0002YSK7Y/ref=sr_1_13?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1517697879&sr=1-13&keywords=plug+in+doorbell+kit
yes, kill the power if it is wired and see if it is the transformer. if that's the problem remove it take it to big box store and get another one. pls cut the power b4 removing thevtransformer
