What is the best way to seal a wine barrel wanting to be a pond?

Have a half wine barrel and would like to turn it into a pond. What is the best way to seal it? Would like to add fish, so the sealant needs to be non toxic.

The easiest way would be to buy a plastic liner made for that purpose.
rather than trying to seal it, purchase a pond liner material or roof membrane to line the barrel....add water and plants, dont add fish right away let the plants and water settle for a couple of weeks

Is Flex Seal non-toxic?
Why not use heavy pond liner? Guaranteed no leak and no leaking of possible toxins in the water.

All the barrel ponds I have ever seen had a liner in them to protect the wood and prevent water leakage. You can buy liner material made for ponds. Or you could try using 6 to 20 mil plastic sheeting or crawl space vapor barrier. Use black, not clear or translucent. fold and shape it to the inside of the half barrel. Staple the edges along the upper edge to hold it in place.
