Could you use a metal scroll with the wooden spindles? I am looking for some to change the look of my wooden stair spindles.

It would look pretty to add a spindle centered between each of what’s there now.

I go with Erin. Add metal spindles in between the wood spindles. Or screw eyes top and bottom and plastic coated coated cable.

Check the local salvage store like Habitat Restore. Craigslist is great for used balusters and
    Ebay sell them.

I agree that the current balusters are spaced too far apart. Seems like alternating with metal would add a finished look.

You could also just buy round wooden dowels from the hardware store and stain them a darker color and put one in-between each, Just get a drill bit the diameter of your dowels, put some tape around the bit to prevent it going into the rail too deep or the stair riser. Use a level to make sure its plumb and put some carpenter's glue to fix. or buy some matching ones.... this place is real cheap..... https://www.millworkcity.com/carolina-stair-supply-biltmore-baluster-5715-36-poplar.html

    Hello again Linda,
Yes you can!! If you find a Blacksmith, he will make whatever design you
like! If you buy ready made, then it's just what's on offer. Good luck!
