I found these frames at Michaels and I just had to buy them. They fit perfectly with my farmhouse decor. Im so excited about this find!
I just love these! I feel like they just scream, "SHIPLAP!" Lol.
I found these for $1 at Michaels, and used my 50% off coupon.
The first step is staining and darker colors. I went with a black stain, but you can of course choose any color. I decided to do each little rectangle as a different color.
Next, add your paint. I chose black and white for this project, but I chose blue for a different project and it turned out just as pretty.
Make sure to go with the grain, and to add only a little paint.
After your paint has dried completely, rough it up a little. Sand the edges and corners. Sand lightly and with the grain.
Now for the vinegar solution. This solution takes 24 hours to prepare. Simply mix apple cider vinegar and steel wool, and let sit for 24 hours before staining. If you let it sit longer, it will end up a rust color instead of a blue color. You can also add tea bags for a browner color.
Once the stain is ready, and the paint is dry and sanded, cover your frame (or anything wooden) in the vinegar solution. Cover everything. The stain, the paint, and the exposed wood. Cover it all.
Here's an up-close look at the after. I love this look. It fits well with my farmhouse style bathroom and our coastal beach style bathroom.
I actually did this in blue for our coastal beach style bathroom
Here's a look at the finished product hanging on the wall.
Such a simple DIY. I still need to finish this bathroom, but I love the look of these frame hanging above the toilet.
