My bathroom is in redo mode so I have no cabinetry in there for storage but I still need some sort of storage in there! I would finish the room myself but someone else wants to do it (my better half). That person is a procrastinator and I'm not!
This is how I solved some of that storage problem.icon
I have wood pallets and I'm making an open shelving unit! I will use it in the bathroom until I get some cabinets in there but I really don't want it only for that room. It must be versatile so I could use it somewhere else in the future.
I started with 3 pallets. I had to pull off some damaged boards (I will use them to fill in the gaps) then I cut one of those pallets in half with a circular saw.
I added some of the boards from the parts I had dismantled to the bottoms to make 3 shelves. Just measure out the size you need and attach with wood screws.icon
Next...
I made this as wide as the half cut pallet (20" wide, 16" deep). I then used 4 boards (40" long) for the legs. At first I was just going to use those 4 boards then I thought that would not be sturdy enough so I added 3" blocks of pallet wood to the bottom.

I drilled in 2 wood screws for each block of wood.
I added some wood to the gaps to make 2 solid shelves and left the bottom shelf alone.
To attach the shelves and legs I took what I was using as the top shelf and flipped it upside down on the floor then screwed in the long boards to the bottom piece of wood on the shelf. For the middle shelf, I measured 20" on all 4 legs, marked it then drilled 2 holes on each of those boards (make sure it is squared). I didn't attach the middle shelf yet.
I then flipped it back upright, put it over the bottom shelf and screwed in the legs to the blocks.
Now that I have the top and bottom shelf attached all I have to do is screw in the middle shelf which I already measured and pre drilled the holes (always make sure things square up).
Finished building!!
Oops I forgot to say that I sanded down all of the wood before I put it all together! Total time on this project would be about 4 hours. You can buy the wood or do what I did and use pallets. I really can't imagine that it would cost over $20.
As you can see I didn't stain or paint the unit, I left it plain because I'm hoping the procrastinator will finish the taping/mudding the walls and putting in the sink (sitting on the left of the shelving unit still boxed up),so I can paint, add the baseboard/trim and finish this bathroom! I would do it but he is insisting he wants and will do it. icon ! Hmmm... I have a feeling I will be doing it soon myself!
