Is there a good way to use diluted craft paint to color macrame cord?

I’ve been doing a lot of macrame wall hangings & I want to add color to some of them. Now I know I can buy & mix in colored cords & I know I can use a fabric dye to dye cords, but fabric dyes are rather expensive if you want a wide aray of colors & shades. Since I literally have 100s of bottles of craft paint, I wondered if there might be a way to utilize all the different colors in my macrame. Thanks!

I find craft paints to be opaque so the colors might be somewhat cloudy on your cording, depending on material content. A cotton cording may dye different than nylon absorption wise. I use the craft paints to retouch my leather purses sucessfully they do have their uses. In theory they should work, I have used them on fabrics with a fabric medium “solution”

I would suggest you do a trial sample with a scrap piece of cording to see if you like the results before trying a piece you have labored your valuable time on to avoid possible disappointment.

I used to do really large macrame hanging pot holders, 25ft. in the 70s, and hand woven fabrics with natural dyes. So you can also do natural dyes especially when you live out in the country there are plenty of materials handy. http://pioneerthinking.com/natural-dyes ask friends to save certain things for you.

You can buy Rit also on Amazon, Walmart for less than that. Think I got mine at Bi-Mart or Fred Meyer.
