Safari themed nurseries seem to be a hot commodity right now. What little girl or boy wouldn’t love to begin their journey in life with this cute giraffe dresser?
Always begin by cleaning the piece and lightly sanding it.
I used a trial size of paint from Ace hardware to give the drawer fronts 3 coats of yellow paint.
Next I used my cameo silhouette to print out a removable vinyl sticker. The negative space of the sticker will become a mother giraffe with her baby. I gave the paint 24 hours to dry then placed the sticker onto the drawer fronts.
My granddaughter used a dry brush to create a thin coat of teal paint over the entire drawer front and vinyl stickers. If she can do this, so can you ;)
After 3 thin coats of teal paint, it is time to peel off the sticker. It is easier to peel off the sticker while the paint is not fully cured. I used an exacto knife to pick at the sticker.
It easily peels away however, a few touch ups were required.

The top of the dresser had numerous gauges which needed correction. It wasn't within the budget to sand it down to bare wood and time wasnt on my side with the baby due in a few weeks.
For a quick fix, I used a small amount of chalk paint over the dents.
A quick sand with a palm sander made it feel silky smooth.
Here is a closeup of the top with 3 coats of teal green latex water based paint.
I absolutely love General Finishes topcoat! It is self leveling and creates a beautiful, durable finish without the hassle of waxing. I used three coats of Flat Out Flat!
Here is the finished piece!
Mom has loaded up the dresser with the cutest of outfits and all essentials that little ones require. It is truly a statement piece in the nursery. I hope Mom enjoys her view of it as she rocks her bundle of joy to sleep at night!
