Most folks use sleds in their holiday decor, but I decided to skip the red & green and go straight for icy blue & white for winter. You can get the full tutorial here!
I found this decorative wooden sled at the thrift store- it was in great condition but I wasn't crazy about the appearance. I picked it up thinking I'd use it for Christmas/holiday decorating, but then the holidays came and went before I did anything!
So, I decided that I'd give it a clean, cool winter makeover instead! First, I painted the rails a dark silver. Next, I "aged" them for a vintage look- find out my secret trick to it here!
After finishing the rails and painting the rest of the sled light blue, I decided to stencil on some snowflakes to really bring it all together with a winter look. So I gathered my stenciling supplies and Winter Graphics stencil (from Funky Junk's Old Sign Stencils line).
And voila- my first snowflake. I love how it falls off along the natural break in the wood. Now to finish stenciling and I'll be done!
All ready for winter! This will be a nice transitional piece between the holidays and Spring. Head over to my blog for all the extra details!
