I am having a problem with black/brown "mold" in my toilet bowls.

Use a cleaner, such a spray bottle of vinegar or some laundry detergent, to clean the toilet and loosen the fungus. Flush. Repeat this step until you no longer see the toilet mold. Put a cup of bleach into the toilet and let it sit. Apply borate, which can be found in the laundry aisle at the grocery store, to your toilet bowl. This can prevent mildew from growing again.

Turn the water supply off and flush the toilet. Remove tank lid and add several cups of white vinegar. With a long handled brush, scrub the inside of the tank. Turn water supply on so tank fills up to normal height. Let sit for a few hours. Flush and then clean the bowl. See if that helps. Wondering if you have city water or well water? If well water, you may need a whole house filter where the water comes into the house. If you already have one, check to see if the filter needs changing. If all else fails, call a plumber!

I agree with Nancy about using vinegar for cleaning. It will kill the mold. I recently read that bleach doesn't actually kill the mold, it just removes the color. The other possibility for why it's coming back, is that it could be still on your toilet brush so it always leaves some behind to grow. Using vinegar to clean the bowl will clean your brush too. You could also soak your brush in vinegar, just to be sure. Wishing you the best.

Do you have mold issues elsewhere in the house? You may consider seeking a way to increase airflow in the room.

The number one sure-fire solution is Clorox bleach tablet toilet bowl cleaner. You put one tablet in your tank every month and the mold ain't coming back. You do run the risk of corroding metal parts in the tank, but what's life without risk?

You could try putting a swimming pool Chlorine tablet in the water tank behind the filler tube. As the tablet dissolves....it chlorinates the water that flows through the channels and water rinse holes that you cannot reach, to possibly kill the mold inside the channels inside the toilet walls, so it does not come back. Just do NOT

use any other cleaners while the chlorine tablet is intact . Just a thought. 😊

I had this problem, too, and discovered that my blood sugar was sky high. Not to scare you, but if you haven't had a check up in a while, it might be time for one. Good luck
