Depends on where you live. If you want plants that tolerate heat and take little care plant silvermound. They are related to sagebrush. They grow low but can get large around. They are drought tolerant but do very well with water too. There are two different types. They have small white flowers.
I would suggest Peonies. My peony plants are hardy (I've moved them several times) and they LOVE full sun! They also bloom gloriously
Hens and chicks are great in the sun

Some plants I have in my all afternoon sun garden (100+ in the Summer) ~ Daylily, Marigold, Catmint, Shasta Daisy, Liatris, Red Hot Poker, Iris, Lantana, Sedum, Rosemary, Alyssum, Roses, Geraniums, Statice, Yarrow,Sunflowers, Lavender, hollyhock, calendula, asparagus fern, African Daisy, Pittosporum...just to name a few ♥ Have fun! BTW, I'm in zone 9
