Gardening with kids, when you do not have a green thumb?

Do something fun and easy- sunflowers! Plant just one or two, since they take a lot of room. Sunflowers will sprout in 1 week, become a small seedling in 2 weeks, and should be 2' tall in a month. In 8 weeks, the buds will flower revealing hundreds of seed kernels. Be sure to grow 'confectionery' sunflowers, the type grown for food. They will dry naturally in the late summer sun; the seeds, rich in protein and iron, can be roasted for snacks. Save a few for next summers' planting.

Yes!! Contact your local Master Gardeners Association. They do volunteer work! This would be perfect for them. If you cannot get their number, contact your County Agricultural Extension Office. They work hand in hand and will know. Or look in your local paper to find when they have something going on.

Hi! One of the easiest seeds that will easily sprout will be tomato seeds. Just cut your ripe tomatoes crosswise, or just simply remove its seeds and just scatter it in your plot. It will sprout in few days time, and will yield some fruits after few weeks. :)

Start with Jolly Time popcorn.....you can teach them the way a seed sprouts and grows....You soak the beans overnight. then put in a dark place for a couple of days and a sprout will start (so darling)...place in a pot with dirt barely covering seeds.....set in sun. ....water lightly.....and a miracle happens....you can add these greens to salads. Try easy and colorful flowers like marigolds. Put in bulbs for onions which will come up quickly. Seeds for veggies like carrots, beans, lettuce. If the kids grow they will eat it.
