1/3 gallon of bleach to gallon of water. Don't soak walls but use rag or sponge and try to get most of the water out before you start wiping. Make sure to vent room, bleach can make you ill if not. Good luck!

I usually had good luck with blue dawn, wipe with damp sponge then different cloth with plain water. Don't rub too hard may remove paint no matter what you decide to use.

A smellier remedy would be ammonia water solution.

Keep in mind typically paint fades with light so you may still be able to see outline.

Depends on type of wall although, I have used fine sand paper on wood and drywall. Lightly sand entire wall (using pole extension if needed) after you get stained area as clean as possible however, be careful not to make grooves. Use long strokes while sanding. If need be, sponge paint or rag paint a accent wall to hide imperfections.

If it is stains from old age just prep and repaint. If it is from smoke, you will have to strip with TSP and refinish your wall.
