At the end of this tutorial - you will have a beautiful blanket with unique tassels. This is a great way to jazz up an old blanket and add some texture to your decor!
  1. Start with a piece of cardboard in the size tassels you want and your yarn.  (You can also use your hand, but I find the cardboard easier).
  2. Start by wrapping your yarn around your cardboard piece.
  3. Continue wrapping.  The more you wrap, the thicker your tassel.  I wrapped about 25 times.
  4. Now, cut a piece of yarn from your skein and tie a knot at the top of your tassel.
  5. Cut the loops from the bottom of the tassel.
  6. This is what you should have now.
  7. Take another piece of yarn and line it up where you want the head of the tassel to be.
  8. Tie a knot to create the tassel head.
9. Now you have a tassel.  Snip the bottom to even up the tassel strands.   This is where sharp scissors come in handy!
You will want to measure your blanket and determine how many tassels you want to make.  I wanted six tassels per side evenly spaced so I made a total of 12 tassels.  Once you make all your tassels, you just need to attach them to your blanket.

I used these blunt eye tapestry needles, but you can use a regular needle too.  I also used the same yarn to attach them to the blanket.  But if you don’t want it to be super obvious from the back, you can use the same thread or yarn color as your blanket.
Basically, I sewed through the back of the blanket, through the tassel head, and back into the blanket to end in the back.  I then tied a few knots in the yarn in the back so it would really stay and clipped the extra yarn ends.

I did this will all 12 tassels and then cleaned up my tassels a bit.  I evened them out, pulled the heads a little tighter and just ensured it looked good.
That was it!  Now I have this cool tassel throw that matches the decor of our living room and looks great at the foot of our bed.
