Wall Plaque With a Message

I love wall plaques with a message. Yesterday I decided to have a little creating fun. I had already decided on the words that I wanted on the plaque. I had colors in mind for the painting. My husband is my carpenter, for the most part. I have to admit that I am not the best with a measuring tape as I am somewhat dyslectic. He is always ready to help me out. The project cost $0 as I had everything on hand that I needed.

The first thing was to cut my boards. I wanted 3 planks 5 1/4" wide X 20" tallX1" deep. You can use thinner wood. I also needed 2 pieces of wood cut for the back braces. Those were cut to fit the with of the three boards once they were joined together. My Handy Husband cut those for me.

Next, I sanded the front and sides of each plank just to smooth them out and remove any splinters.

I painted the back side of each plank with Benjamin Moore "Beach Glass" and then lined them up. Using my staple gun I stapled them together as a stabilizer while attaching the braces.

The braces are attached using heavy duty nails.

After the paint had dried on the back I flipped it over and painted the front. After allowing the paint to dry I painted my message on the board using acrylic artist paint. Next, I allowed the acrylic paint to dry and then painted one coat of rust-oleum clear gloss over the front. Took it inside and hung it on the wall of my sunporch.
