Revamping a hutch, what should I do?

I want to give this hutch a well needed update. Any suggestions. As you can see with the wall paper, it just kind of blends in. Help!

  • I love it as is, a very pretty piece. I see 2 options. Repaint the hutch, or change the paint/wallpaper behind it.

The hutch has a wonderful style that could go in any direction. Chalk paint is the latest fad. Using two complementary colors of your choice, or, white with gray would look very nice in any room. You never know, you may end up redecorating the entire room for that beautiful piece! Best of luck.

I can't tell what the wood is like inside on the backing, but you could wallpaper the back wall behind the shelves in a paper that complements what you have on the wall, or if the wood is bead board, I would take a color from the wall paper and paint in the seams of the bead board as an accent...so the paint would look like thin vertical stripes.

This might not be too popular, but I’d take off the scalloped front under the drawers & top trim. Then have two plain ones cut. Then paint the table one colour & the hutch another. You could also wallpaper the back of the hutch
