Hi Vicky. I have primed and painted the paneling. It turned out really nice. If you decide to do this I would recommend using a oil base primer instead of latex. It worked better for me.

You can paint the paneling in a neutral light color. You would need to clean and degrease walls first then use a roller and paint over the paneling, would be like having vertical shiplap on the wall.

Hi Vicky. My daughter changed her panelling simply by painting it. There is a specific primer to use first but it doesn't take too long to complete the job. Your local paint store can put you on the right path. My daughter's room, 12 x 20, looked fantastic.

I also painted wood paneling. 1st I cleaned the walls really well with TSP, then used drywall compound to fill in the cracks, dried, then lightly sanded, then used oil primer. When dry, I cut new painted baseboards & top trim. Turned out really well

I have paneling in my manufactured home. First I removed the joiner strips between panels then filled all the holes with spackle. I washed the paneling with hot water and tsp. Applied two coats of Kilz2 primer allowing for proper drying time between coats, then applied one to two coats of paint on each wall depending on the color I chose. The walls look great and have held up well. Best of luck.
