Should you stretch a carpet before or after you shampoo it?
Does anyone know the steps for how to stretch a carpet without hiring a professional?

Why would you want to stretch it! If it is secure already, shampooing it shouldn't affect it. Stretching a carpet is for a pro to do if it needs stretching, I would check with them to see what is best.
Hi Patsy,
My mind asked the same question that Nancy asked. I've had carpet cleaned many times over my years in this home but the carpet has never been stretched. Did someone tell you to have it stretched?
It’s only stretched when installed, and anchored by tack strips. If the carpet is worn in a certain area and wavey, you may need to remove that area and cut the patch from a remnant left from install.
The carpet needs to be streached,it's got like several waves, we have had it for 3 years and never shampooed, my husband is a profesional handyman who will with his expertise relay the whole thing, then he said we would clean it. Hope he's right?
