  • Trim off the dead bits and water as usual and see what happens. Just because the foliage is gone does not mean the roots are dead - be patient and give them some time.

It all depends on how long the Freeze was sustained as to how it affected your plants. Where you live, even what type of plants you covered makes a difference. Tropical or semi tropical plants may not make it. It all depends on how far the freeze went down into the soil and how sensitive the plants are. Just about all you can do is wait and see if they come back. That is why up here in the north so many plants are considered annuals, unless you pot them and bring them in each fall and hope they survive until they can go back out in the spring.

Once the freeze is over and the snow has melted, clean up the plants and remove debris. By the time Spring is here, you will know new growth from old dead leaves. Prune the old dead growth off. That is also the perfect time to separate plants like hostas, day lillies, etc. Resume your normal watering and feeding.
