sound like the belt either broke or is slipping. Do you have a fixit person in the family? If so lay the machine on its front. See if a broken belt is there. or Call Sears they are usually reasonable and handy to most areas. Washers and dryers are usually fairly easy to fix. Mine are 35 years old and I am 82 and have fixed them myself several times.

Washing machines do not have belts. They either have a direct drive motor or a coupling motor connected to a transmission. What brand washing machine? Do you hear the motor running? Does it go into spin cycle? Check out this site https://www.repairclinic.com/. Put in your brand or model # They have troubleshooting and repair guides. They also sell replacement parts to do the repair. If your not confident in the repair call an appliance repair service or Sears as Arlis suggests.

I would call the cust svc at the mgfr, whose # is online. Then you’ll know what the real problem is before you hire someone who fixes the wrong thing.
