How do I clean white porch rails?

My cat loves to sit on my white porch rails. His paw prints leave stains that just won't totally clean up. I live in Virginia and have reddish soil that stains everything! I've tried different types of paint over the years, with enamel doing the best, but there is still that ding I can't get out. Any cleaning suggestions?
