Take the whole plant out of the pot and lay it on newspaper. Try to separate the plant straight down the middle of the root ball by hand. If you can't do this then cut the roots with scissors into smaller plants, making sure that you have a large amount of root connected to the plant section. You can plant these directly into the soil. If you have sections that don't have much roots, then put them into a vase of water until new root shoots form. Then plant them. I would use a liquid fertilizer and good potting soil when repotting for best results.
I love these plants, although I don’t have one right now. If any limbs of the spider plant manage to root themselves, take the shoot’s root as well as gently remove them from the mother branch. You can almost dismantle spider plants into several new plants. Use rich potting soil and a small pot first to allow the roots to establish themselves. Then move each plant that seems to be flourishing to a deep pot with room for each plant to thrive. Best wishes to you ☺️

All I do is take a knife and cut between the sections..they are so hardy they don't mind.. I also get rid of a lot of root
