I joined the $100 Room Challenge to update our boring, unorganized laundry/half bathroom, which didn't reflect our family's style- which is definitely a preference for light and bright with a coastal nod. My goal? To use mostly leftover stuff from other projects to keep the total project cost to less than $100.
This is the before. I know it wasn't terrible.
Andddddd the wire shelving over the washer and dryer, which was pretty terrible. This is what our guests were forced to look at whenever they used this bathroom.
The first thing I did was add a wall of tile behind the washer and dryer. Subway tile mostly (leftover from our kitchen backsplash) with a feature stripe of marble mosaic tile leftover from our master bedroom fireplace. I also used leftover gray paint to paint the ceiling (this is one coat, obviously). So much better!
Then, I added some simple pine shelves from lumber leftover from our entryway project. A huge improvement over the wire shelving! Leftover white paint from who knows what project was used for the walls. The tutorial for the shelves is here.
I love how the shelves look natural, and just left them unstained.
The showstopper of the room? The pink pineapples I made with my Cricut Explore One to mimic a pricy wallpaper I was inspired by that was way out of my budget. It adds just the right "wow" factor to the space, was super easy, and gives the room the colorful, coastal flavor that I love so much! Interested in how I made the pineapples? Here's the details.
I love how this space works with the mudroom and its pink buffalo checked walls!
Budget wise, I came in over, when a bag of grout that I had stored outside in a storage building froze (thank you, Bomb Cyclone!). If not for that, I would have come in under budget. However, I'm going to include the total costs for what it would cost if you didn't have the supplies on hand.
Now, instead of wanting to hide when guests use this space, I want to show it off!
