Here is a simple answer for you. Pothos plant! It will grow virtually any place, even underwater. It can be bought at Wal-Mart or Lowes. Hope this helps.
My go to apartment plants are any type of succulent. They don't require sun and are super easy to care for
I find that cyclamen does very well in the Maine winter in a room with no Heat (except from other rooms) in an Eastern window. On FB today I saw one on a table in a restaurant in Calif. So they must be very tolerant plants. I also like geraniums inside and I have a fern that is doing great.
