Hard to flush the toilets

There is an extreme suction when trying to flush the toilets. I know where it's happening although I do not know what to use to fix it. It is at the opening which lets the water out to drain. Any ideas?

Hey Cindy. Is this happening at your sinks and more than 1 toilet? I need to know if the “s” in toilets is meant to be more than 1. If it is more than 1 toilet and sink drains as well, it’s a bigger problem than the valves inside your toilet. But first, need more info.
Let me be clear; it sounds like a back flow of gasses exchanging in a wrong way. And that could be a couple different things as well.

Remember, all drains have a P trap. It is meant to hold water to prevent sewer gasses from entering your home. So suction tells me there is a blockage somewhere. But....you can get diagnostic help BEFORE you pay anyone a dollar! Process of elimination here.
look for the name of the manufacturer of your toilet and the model number (under the tank lid). I have mansfield toilets and when I called them they happily sent me replacement parts which were easy to install. My toilets were becoming terribly hard to push the handle to flush.
Shoshana has the solution. The rubber seal has deteriorated or hardened over time and needs to be replaced. The link has instructions how to do it.
