My question is what color should I paint builders grade part laminate cabinets. with white appliances and light colored counter top eventually should I go dark or maybe white? Open to all suggestions. thanks in advance for your help. first pic is backsplash, second is samples of counter tops, third is my flooring

An off white, cream, or tan would look nice.

Hello! I would suggest a grey tone — grey and white, two-toned kitchens look amazing! However, that will not go with your current floor tile. Therefore, I would go with something dark, like espresso, which would make the white pop and nicely complement the tan flooring. Good luck!

Yes - you need a contrast in the brown tones. It's all kinda' bland now, it needs some color to make it pop.

I don't believe in picking colors for other people, because everyone has a different reaction to a color. I would get a couple sample size bottles of colors your considering, and paint one cabinet door in each color until you like one of them for a month. You could also do this with paper covering the cabinet door.

I would paint the cabinets white and use the countertop sample in the picture to the left since it looks like it has beige in it . Will look nice with your floors and backsplash. I would also replace the knobs, hinges and handles with black it would look good with the black in the counter. Hope this helps you. Would like to see the finished project.

A lighter colour counter top will not show every speck of flour, dust, and other bits as readily as a darker colour. As for the two choices in counter top that you have pictured above- these 'faux marble' designs can be dated looking. A design can also look quite different over a larger area, compared withe the tiny sample. The high contrast darker areas might make it look as if something undesirable has spilt all over your counter tops.

Donna, I am looking at your present island. Although you have a stool at one end, there isn't sufficient overhang width on the countertop to adequately accommodate knee space to make for comfortable seating.

You have wonderful floor space surrounding the island that is not being used to advantage. If you are planning to replace the present solid white countertop with a new colour, I would strongly encourage you to have the new countertop larger. This would give you more 'toe foot space' when standing at the island on three sides, which would enable you to fully use the countertop as a standing prep/working area. On one or two sides you could have the wider overhang to allow for proper seating.

If an island is anchored to the floor, it will be strong enough to balance the added weight of a larger overhand, as compared with a moveable island.

Talk to the staff at any location where counter tops are sold. They should be able to advise you as to the optimum island top sizes for your base, according to function.
