Any Ideas for this old Rocking Chair?

My wife fell in love with this old rocking chair, and would desperately like to upholster it, fix it up... one of the legs is disconnected from the bottom part, and some of the metal staples are poking out (ouch!).
How could I make this usable and comfortable again?

It might be fun to weave some fabric or ribbon thru the slats and then find some colorful pillows to use as the padding.
