This was my Grandmothers. The 'veneer' is peeling off. Could the original Pewter be underneath? Was it dipped for the shiney appearance? Has anyone seen anything like this?. I'd like to save this but its unsafe as is.
It looks like it was chrome plated. If that is the case you can get it re-chromed. I don't think it is pewter. Pewter contains lead and it isn't safe for food. Put a magnet to it and see if it has any ferrous metal.
