Picnic table and grill and mosquito repelant plants planted around patio. Potted fruit trees or bushes and roses on the perimiter
Lattice on one side (about 4 ft. high) plant mandevilla or other vines. Blooms are beautiful around patio. Citronella candles or lamps to repel bugs.
Make it an outside living space with easy chairs , coffee table and maybe a Bar or BBQ area.
Outdoor furniture is a great idea. It would make a great place in the shade to have outdoor barbeques and get togethers. A seating arrangement would be good and a picnic table if it would fit, or you could get one of those folding tables you could take down when not in use. Make your potting area in one of the back corners so it isn't a focal point of the area and it will become a multi purpose area. You could even put something like a shower curtain or attractive sheet up to close off the area when not in use. Potted annuals would work well since you live in a cold winter area and a few perennials that you can take in for the winter would do the area good too, if you want to do it that way.
I like your idea about shower curtain as I can recycle them from the daycare!! I appreciate the ideas.
