The simplest method is to have a hair grabber (it's long and barbed) and use it to remove the hair that goes down the drain. My drain cover is covered and can be removed with one screw. It's usually hair that the soap scum, etc. grabs onto slowing things down. My sink drain is one that raises and lowers, so I am able to insert the grabber down the side and pull out the yucky gobs of stuff. You can even buy them at the dollar store (my store has them by the drain cleaner). More durable ones can be purchased at any store that has plumbing supplies or online.

Get one of those thin plastic strip with barbs that is made for removing hair from drains, they are really cheap and last for a really long time. Mine is close to ten years old. Once you have all the hair out that you can, Put baking soda, about half cup down the drain and follow with at least a cup of straight vinegar. Let it sit and fizz for ten to fifteen minutes. Follow that with about a gallon of boiling water to rinse all the gunk down the drain. This will clean out the pipes, disinfect the pipes and also take care of any mold or mildew that is forming around the gunk that was down in the pipes. Doing this on a regular basis will keep the tub drain running smoothly and hopefully never get clogged.

Great ideas from Nancy and Cynthia. I did as they suggested several years ago and monthly I do the soda, vinegar and boiling water routing. It's worked very well.
