My sister-in-law was cleaning out her garage and found lots of crates she had purchased, but no longer needed. She knows I love crafting, so she offered them up to me. I jumped at the chance to create easy and purposeful storage options. The first thing I decided to make was this Easy Crate Kitchen Storage. Like most people I struggle with keeping the kitchen clutter free and organized. There just is never enough room. The one place that gets underutilized for storage are the walls. I'm always hesitant to hang things on the wall, because I worry about weight and the integrity of the drywall. However, with the right wall anchors and proper weight limits you too can have a more organized kitchen. I added a shelf in the middle to create a more defined space.
Supplies:
Wooden crate (15 x 10 x 7 ½”)
Block of wood (13 ½” x ¾”)
Paint (Valspar Satin Gravity)
Paint brush
Nails
Hammer
½” drywall anchors
Screwdriver
level
3 mug hooks

Paint the entire crate along with the block of wood for the shelf. Allow to dry an hour before flipping over and doing backsides. Let the paint dry fully when completed, about an hour.
Install the shelf in your preferred location of the crate using the hammer and nails. I opted to make the top part of the shelf slightly larger than the bottom shelf.
Mark where you want the crate to be hung on the wall using a pencil and the level. Install the anchors into the marked spots on the wall using the screwdriver. Start the hole in the crate while on the ground. Place the crate on the wall lined up with the wall anchors and screw in the accompanying screws until firmly in place.
With your hands screw in the mug hooks. Decorate or organize as desired.
I really loved the way this turned out! It has freed up space in my pantry and I can't wait to add more crates for even more storage. You can check out more info about this project at https://appetiteanarchy.com/easy-crate-kitchen-storage/
