Recently, with Steph’s help and the help of a few volunteers, we planned and hosted a craft night for women at my church. A search of Pinterest and a picture on Facebook provided the inspiration for our Valentine’s Day craft.

Head to our website to for some tips at the end of the post for planning a craft night for a group using this craft. This is something that can be adapted for any season or holiday.

Take a minute to watch this video for a quick overview of the project. Really, it's just over a minute!

Start by gathering your supplies. You're going to need (4) blocks cut from a piece of 2"x6"x8' board. Use a scrap if you have one. Also, you'll need paint, Mod Podge, paintbrush, and die-cut letters and optional heart shape.

We cut the the wood on the miter saw. You could also use a miter box and handsaw. We had 100 squares to cut, so we had to use a miter saw. After the blocks were cut we sanded each one with 150 grit sandpaper.

This is how we set up the tables for our group craft night. Most everything the attendees needed was preset on the tables. There were even instructions so the early bird could self-start their project.

We used an Ellison die cut machine. We die cut letters but also had the machine available if someone wanted a word other than LOVE. We had a section of scrapbook paper available to choose from.

The first step was to sand if needed, clean with a t-shirt rag, and paint. We are using a paint that looks more like a stain than a paint. We had shades of pink and red available for the attendees

Once dry the edges could be sanded for a distressed look.

Add a thin coat of Mod Podge to the front of the block.

Lay the shape or letter in place and add another thin layer of Mod Podge taking care to ease out any wrinkles or bubbles. Once this is dry the entire block can be coated with additional Mod Podge to finish.

Finished and in place!

We chose colors that are wintery to be able to use the blocks the entire month. It's a little more subtle than a totally pink and red Valentine's Day decoration.
