You may have a plastic gear that has worn down. If you take the cover off you can see it. Is your opener very old? i replaced the entire machine after about 15 years. Good luck!
How about the batteries in the remote. Have you changed those?
there's a video on youtube that shows how to break into your garage if you need to get in & have no opener that works & need to get into the garage. ... but the batteries are where I would start if you haven't tried those.
