It depends upon what growing zone you live. Go to a plant nursery and look for a bag that says shade grass seed or grass seed for shade.. The nursery will carry things that grow in your area.
Grass does not like low sunlight areas. "Low sunlight" can be a wide range of actual light and you may have an area so dark that grass just will not grow. Your best bet is to ask where you buy grass seed. You know that they will have the product they recommend for sale.
Another option for low light is moss. I prefer it to grass and if I could my whole yard would be varieties of moss. Check out mossacres.com. You may like what you see.
some ground covers can also grow in low light areas
