They have dog doors available for extreme weather conditions that has double doors they go out of. They are a little more expensive, but really work when it comes to real cold and real hot. We have one and we really have no problem in the winter with the cold coming in at all. With four dogs, it really helps to let them go out when they want to and not have to let them in or out. You can get doggy doors that are for sliders, regular doors, and even through the wall if no doors are available that you can cut. You should be able to put it in yourself. They come with good instructions and a template for where you cut the door so that it is easy to get the right sized hole cut. It is worth it to purchase one.
First check your local thrift stores. If they have premade doggie doors that would be cheaper and easier then making your own.
