We have a wall unit that takes up almost the entire wall.

Question

I want to paint it but am hesitant to do so. It's traditional and in a dark oak. We have a "beachy" decor and it just doesn't fit. The walls are very light grey and I'm thinking about a medium shade of grey for the unit. I would change the hardware to nickel to match the other pieces in the room. There are two chairs in off white that will be in front of it. Grey or white?

Based on your description, gray. White would be a little too stark for the beach theme.

If the walls are a light gray, go with a deeper shade for the wall unit. White for the chairs otherwise gray on gray on gray will be too bland. You need some contrast.

I like the idea of the medium grey, it won't sink into the gray walls if it is darker.
