Hot Mess Marble Glass Vase / Candle Holder

Update: My teen was scrolling through my pics and came across these and she exclaimed, ”What is that!” I replied that it was marble painting. She excitedly said, “I want to marble paint!!!!” And there you have it, this is the ultimate teen craft. You‘re welcome! 😉 A year ago, I used one of these glass votive holders for a glass bead project and it turned out to be one of my favorite projects ever. Lately, I have been feeling like I have been having a creative block in organizing and decorating in general. When this happens to me, I find that the best way to overcome this is to perform some “creative“ exercises. Very similar to when singers and actors perform exercises before performing. To many people it may seem silly but to me, it can just open my mind to think differently. Since these glass votives are less than a dollar, they are perfect to perform one of these creative exercises on.
The supplies that I used were as follows, the glass votive, several colors of acrylic paints, Martha Stewart ‘s marbling medium and I spray painted them first with Krylon Sea Glass.
When you do a project for the first time, it often is a series of successes and things you would do differently the next time around. This is one thing I would do differently the next time I do this project. The color seemed wrong with the acrylics that I chose plus it really isn’t necessary to spray paint them at all. I would leave them clear next time.
Just for fun, I painted the Inside of one and the outside of the other.
It was much harder to spray paint them than I had anticipated, mainly because they are so tiny.
The bottom is the inside painted and the top is the outside spray painted.
Next, I needed something that could hold the glass inverted and allow the paint to drip off. I used some empty plastic bottles hot glued to a paper plate.
Here are some of the paint colors that I used.
I used a small plastic cup to mix each color with the marbling medium. I stirred each with a chopstick. Each cup was 1 part paint and 2 parts marbling medium.
I randomly dripped on the colors layering them and tilting the jar to manipulate the paint.
It was a fun exercise and now I am feeling more creative.
I had a jelly jar that was a fail from last year and I used it to use up all my leftover cups of marbling mixtures.
This ended up my favorite! 
Super colorful and definitely a Hot Mess! Tomorrow when they are dry, I will post more pics. The last thing that I would do differently is to put paper down to catch all the goodness that runs off. I use papers like that in art journals.

They are very different little bursts of happiness.
The colors that I chose remind me of Easter.

Several bloopers here... But Virginia weather hasn’t cooperated for a “take two“ video. I drop the glass not once but twice! Lol Keeping it real here! Maybe rubber gloves would be a smart idea as this does get messy and 📱 are expensive!
Dollar Tree has battery operated tea lights so I added them for a little extra ambiance. Pretty cute, they actually flicker like real candle light does.

I bought 4 large pieces of square glass with beveled sides and shaped corners. I think this project just might be what's in store for them.

Why did you use or even need the marbling medium? The paint will do its own marbling as you pour it. And how do you keep the thick paint from peeling off after it is dry?
Can you secure your votive holders aka plastic bottles to a canvas or your journal page? Then you get two acrylic pours for the price of one! Maybe just filling them with water or sand would prevent the need to glue them down. I'm an acrylic pour junky so I really love these; just hate to see the paint go to waste!! Great job. Try some interference paint!!
