How do you remove carpet backing stuck to wood floor
We just pulled up carpet and the padding has many bits of it stuck to the wood floor. How can we safely remove it?

I use the damp cloth, hot iron method. It really works.
Put ice cubes on impressions let melt...volia!
You can put an ice cube in the depression then, after it's melted, fluff up the carpet with a fork. Haven't actually tried it, but it always sounded logical--the fibers are compressed and they will swell a bit with the water.
Place an ice cube in the depression and let it melt; then vacuum.
