HAVE: Plastic kit cabinets. WANT: Country, cheap ideas to replace :)

I have horrible looking, plastic kitchen cabinets. I’ve tried painting them, but regardless, they still look and feel cheap.
I love the country/rustic look and am slowly applying that throughout the house, but I really want to focus on cheaper alternatives for my cabinets. I am very good with my hands and creative, but it helps to hear other creative minds in motion too. Thanks for any and all suggestions
