We scraped Popcorn off the ceiling and sanded - what is next step?

I want the simplest steps to take in order for it to look good, but not take a lot of time and money.

Depending on any damage or seams......we have gotten away with doing a little patching and then painting the ceiling using a 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch nap roller. Sometimes the damage was bad enough that we had to hire someone to come in and do some drywall repairs to the seams and then shoot an orange peel texture.
