Has anyone out there ever grown their own avocado tree?

Please give details on type of soil, depth, do you just put the pit from the avocado in the ground? Live in southern FL. Thanks!

Yes, I put my seeds in the soil in my houseplants and it takes a while to come up. It is too cold here to keep them outside in the winter.
They make beautiful plants. Even if you never get fruit from it.
