It's possible the dish liquid etched the finish. You can try white (not gel) toothpaste and a damp toothbrush or cloth. A dab of toothpaste on the brush/cloth. I use it to clean jewelry, silver, gold, brass, copper, ceramics, porcelain items I sell on Ebay.
Try some Tarnex silver and metal cleaner
Or a little diluted Peroxide
I would be VERY careful with any abrasive or any substance that may cause a chemical reaction that can not be reversed. I would contact a Silversmith, or anyone who specializes in antique metals.
Hand wash only. Not for very acid foods either.
