When is the best time to dig up and replant a very small pine tree?
The tree is about 2 1/2 feet tall.
Dig in the Fall. Japanese Maples are best transplanted when they're dormant, which means fall. When digging up the tree, be careful of the roots. A rule of thumb is if the trunk is 2" in diameter, dig at least 9" from the truck all around.
In the early spring just when it want;s to start to grow........
Actually, in the fall rather than the spring when they are dormant. If you are going to plant it in the spring, do it as soon as possible.
I would do this in the spring to give it enough time to recover before the high heat of summer and the extreme cold of winter
the correct time is the fall....http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/outdoors/gardening/how-to-transplant-a-japanese-maple
Late fall when the tree becomes dormant.
Good luck........
I planted mine in the late fall and it thrived.
