Vintage suitcases have become the trend in home decorating. So when I saw a $10 beaten up old suitcase online, I picked it up in a heartbeat. This vintage piece was in rough shape! But, now, in my crafty hands, this old luggage went through a major redo and was given new life...on my wall as a photo display.
Re-purpose a $10 vintage suitcase
This old suitcase must have had an amazingly adventurous former life! It looked like it was well-traveled. So the first step in this redo was to remove the original liner within the suitcase.
Drill small holes in side of suitcase.
Remove the top from the bottom of the suitcase. With the pieces removed, determine how the wire will be laid out within the top of the suitcase. With a vision in mind, drill small holes in the two sides of the suitcase. While at it, insert a hook in the backside of the top of the suitcase in order to hang.
Insert new fabric into vintage suitcase.
Lay out and measure fabric to replace that old liner. Iron down the raw edge of the fabric and use a hot glue gun to secure into the top of the suitcase. Insert bailing wire into the previously drilled holes. Twist the edges of the wire to keep it from slipping out.
Turn vintage suitcase into photo display.
Find fun paper clips to hang photos or travel memories within this repurposed vintage suitcase. Want more vintage redos? Check out how a salvage yard staircase banister was turned into a gallery wall for photo frames.
