I already craft. Like to get messy with glues and paint. I'd really like to move on now to making my own wooden items/bases easy furniture etc. Where do I start on the toolside as I can't afford to buy everything at once. Thankyou 😘 (inc photos of my last creation)

Your creation is Beautiful & creative :).
I’ve done wood crafting & have made (with my husband) some furniture -2 entertainment centers, multiple types of shelving, a pie case, & a variety of Christmas crafts & home decor items over the last 20 years.
Most useful tools: good drill driver, joiner system (to drill screws diagonally- not sure of name), miter chop saw or miter box, square, level,
clamps, table saw, circular saw (can do the work of table saw with the right work bench), & bench mounted vice. For crafting a scroll saw is nice but often jigsaw will work too. Hope this helps. Bonnie T

okay, i dont know if this will get past any sensor ship, but there is a web site dedicated to books. free to read..on screen. Freebookspot is the name. it has tons of books/ plans for diy wood working projects, i did see a book on making out door furniture with 2x4's. some of the books can be down loaded. some not.

Kreg is the brand name of the pocket holes "joiner system" mentioned above. There are some good tutorials online using it. I started with a good drill (back in the day) because with attachments it can do a lot. That and a jigsaw and a miter saw. But if you can add real tools, the list above is a terrific one.

Sharp good quality scissors, each pair being labeled and 'reserved' only for use on paper, fabric, etc.- for cutting of like objects only so that they don't get wrecked from misuse. This way you will always have quality specific use scissors that last a long time. Get a good quality scissor sharpener, and keep the blades sharp.
This week I saw on clearance at Walmart.com several different sizes and styles of Fiskars scissors for 1/2 price or less.

Another tool I use constantly is “Youtube.com”.. I have the app on my tablet and refer to it a lot before I start a project to look for ideas to make it easier. Good luck and have fun.

the books can be sorted a bit....”diy” is an option, or “woodworking”

My husband does a lot of using power tools for his wood projects. We go to auctions, estate sales and yard sales and also have a swap shop at our transfer station. So visit those places for good buys. He has a lathe, drill press, skill saw, table saw, jig saw, lots of chisels and planes, hammers, screw drivers etc. Lots of clamps and small tools. You need saws (hand) hammers, you should also watch You Tube videos and see what tools a person uses to make a simple project. There are never enough tools to own or space to put them!

I started out with nothing, just borrowing my hubbys tools he had laying around in the garage. From that I realized, 1)he‘s unorganized :) 2) that I always used my dremel in addition to his tools. even now that I’ve bought my own power tools, my go to is still my Dremel. There are so many attachment that make it versatil. I recentlt burnt my out (it was at least 10 years old) and I purchased dremel big that had three different tools to the set. On sale at Home Depot for $145 out the door. It’s reg. Around $175 before taxes. I like the light weight easy movement of the arm extension which I got on sale at Lowe’s for $19. I have all the goodies that go with it but I wait until - yep! - each was on sale.

I really use my Dremel tool, good clamps, electric drill, scroll saw and table saw the most. It depends on what you want to make what tools you will use the most.

    DREMEL!
There are so many attachments that can take the place of some other tools for cutting, sanding etc...many kits available on Amazon. Also, I love my little WEN palm sander. looks like a little iron and is big enough to sand furniture pieces and still get to the detail work. I think I paid 25$ for the WEN and 30$ for my DREMEL kit. those to me are the two best starters but LOTS of great ideas others have listed!! have fun! so addicting!
