Ideas for a canopy or shelter above patio door

I'm interested in knowing what other DIYers think about ideas for putting a shelter over a patio door. I have been thinking of a canopy or solid structure that lets the light through.

A pergola would be very nice.
A pergola archway would look good over your door
A small pergola would provide the framework.... and frosted or clear rippled fiberglass could give you protection from rain or snow...something similar to this with out the bench

I really like the white wooden canopy, last picture.
