This can also be a small investment of time for great reward. If your cat likes boxes you can cut out a hole in the side of a box, put an old towel in there and they will love it. I might cover it with left over fabric or contact paper so it fits into the room, but you could put different sizes on top of each other, tape them together and the cat would love them!
I have 6 cats - they all have beds, essentially useless. They prefer the cat scratching posts with platforms or my furniture. Hence my furniture is all covered with easily washable throws.

I'm not sure if you have access to internet but if u look on Pinterest they have amazing ideas for cats. They have shelving for steps and planks around the room up high so it does not interfere with humans and it gives cats the height they love. They do amazing things for cats with access to humans. They even have tree limbs incorporated into designs.
