I’ve always loved seeing nurseries where books are displayed. These displays are not only functional, but they double as adorable decor that any little one can enjoy for years to come!

I decided to save money and build some shelves for my nursery all by myself.
I ended up making 3 ledges for the nursery, each one using 3 pieces of wood (2, 1x3 and 1, 1x2). I decided to keep my wood natural, but you can totally paint or stain the wood so it matches your home decor.
Using a nail gun, I attached the 3 pieces of wood together. I also used wood glue to make sure they were really secure. Even the heavy books won't break these bookshelves apart!
Once all three of my ledges were built, it was time to hang. You'll definitely need a level for this. I also chose to use a countersink bit on my drill so I could conceal the screw with a wood cap.

After screwing directly through the wood into the studs on the wall, my ledges were secure and ready for books!
I can’t help but look at this collection of books and smile! I know this is a project that will grow with this little guy for years and years to come.
And the best part is that you don't just need to use these DIY ledges for books, they're also great for picture frames too!
