Look @ wood vinyl flooring or 18X 18 tile or marble with your rugs...

    Id ditch the carpet!

Get a color wheel that shows different intensities of each color. See what colors are opposite the primary color of Brown. It might be that the burgundy in different complimentary shades might be what you need. A touch of Aqua or perhaps a spring green (whatever color that catches YOUR eye) could be used as an accent color in the way of sofa cushions, a painting, and accessories added to a table top here and a shelf over there. You just have to play with it.

Maybe some sunny yellow throw pillows would brighten things up. Sounds like you can sew, you can purchase material and make them yourself. If you like that, then make curtains to match.

Also, try removing the throw rugs. That may give you a lighter brighter look.

    That room sounds dark.

Pick a new modern color. Lime green, yellow ,pink or Fushia with stripes or a pattern. Fushia will go with the colors you have. Use it for toss pillows, a small rug . A trio of fushia and cream large candles. Some large cream Calia Lillie's in a clear glass holder with a few black stones in the bottom.

Black is a wonderful grounding accient color .a pice of black wroght iron decoration on the wall to bring the eye up. And mirrors., mirrors, and mirrors.large and small to break up the long walls.

An large old window Payne or door painted in a muted color of what you chose for your pillowsand candles. Get bold and perk that place up..

Don't be afraid ! Your mood will improve. You will feel younger and more enterjectic . Most of all you will feel proud with a since of accomplishment.

The easy answer is add pillows and throws in a color you love. Just about any color will work with the brown and cream. If you have wall space, hang a colorful poster or print. When I was first married and couldn't afford paintings, I framed scarves. You could also make a removable cover for your couch. Look around your room and see where you can add color. Even a little change can make a big difference.

I think a light teal color will really brighten your room up, especially with brown. Get some discounted fabric remnants and cover your pillows. Pull up those throw rugs. I would get rid of the burgandy and go with a lighter color.

I once lived in a long narrow place with a low ceilling. OT was depressing to me. I painted the walls. Starting with a medium grey at the button. Then applied a lighter shade of grey about 2.5 foot higher and went to the lightest shade just above eye level.

By applying the paints while each was wet I could blend them in so there was no line of demarcation. The cielling, I painted a soft blue and palest cream. Again blending areas.

It certainly opened my world up for me. When my friends saw it the all wanted me to come do their places.
