I've seen this before both on tv and on hometalk. In a glass jar with a lid fill with white vinegar cut up steel wool ( if it's he type with soap in it was out the soap) add to the jar. Let sit for 24 hours or so. The longer it ( steel wool) sits in the vinegar the darker it becomes. Dip your rag into the stain and wipe it on your wood just as you would any other stain. Turns out beautiful.
